I don't see why not, a UV sterilizer advertised as a " water purifier" I don't think is any different than a aquarium UV light. I don't know. Someone else will probably be able to help more than me. Lol.

The device adopts 304 stainless steel

No... 304 will rust.
Even 316L which is marine grade will still rust over time.

There is a reason why our uv units are pvc / plastic.

With a little ingenuity, you can DIY a new housing out of PVC for pretty cheap.
Where do you get UV-resistant PVC and all the fittings?

AquaUV and Pentair are built from a UV-resistant PVC. Ask me how I know? A friend had one made from a bad batch, leaked within a year (UV light ate through the PVC).

I wasn't aware of that. My Aqua UV looks like normal PVC. Good to know. He can use ABS instead. Though, as others have already noted, most materials will eventually degrade. Just some faster than others, I suppose.

Anyone know how fast stainless degrade in saltwater?
I wounded if the house UV options are an idea for something to run as needed say 1 month to control whatever issue
Then rinse and store.
Or is like 1 month of stainless or whatever metal they use being in a saltwater going to kill all my corals?

Wouldn’t leaching pvc be just as bad

Different alloys degrade at deferent speed. Home use systems most likely degrade quickly as they are not meant for SW use.

Why risk it considering there are cheap Aquarium UVs on the market?

Define "just as bad"? Also what does your PVC leach that you are worried about?

Anyone have a good uv to recommend for short term use then
A "good" uv or a cheap uv? I dont think they can be both. I have a Pentair 40w it wasnt both new but I got it used replaced the quartz sleeve and seals it came with an extra bulb. So that checked both off for me. Just be careful and make sure whatever you get will not corrode or deteriorate in sw.

Out here in SoCal, I often see free hot tubs available and have often wondered if a UV sterilizer from one could be re-purposed for reef tank use.

Thoughts?
