Varios 2 float valve setup

I tried searching for this and couldn’t find it...so probably means I’m and idiot or just not thinking this through right. I purchased the Reef Octopus Varios 2 pump for my return pump. I thought the float switch was used to shut off the pump if the water level got too low so the pump wouldn’t run dry, but I can’t get it to work for this. I have it set to the height of the water I want it shut off at, but doesn’t seem to work. The light on controller lights up for float switch so it’s activated but pump still runs wether I move float switch up rom down. Any ideas?

I read somewhere also that the float switch isn’t supposed to shut off the pump if’s the after gets too high in the chamber, like the RO regal skimmer has a float switch in the collection cup and that one work so for me when the water gets too high in the cup, but that got me thinking, if the water level rises in the return section, you wouldn’t want the pump off! And this would generally mean its already off.

Am I missing something here or just overthinking this or did I do something wrong with this float switch?

Thinking that this float switch isn’t meant for the sump when it runs dry...? Rather when the overflow raises too high so it shuts off and does overflow the tank? Is this float switch meant for the sump or the display?

Definitely meant for your sump. I dont use that feature so im not exactly familiar with it. Have you enabled it on the controller? I know there is a button..

Yes. Is it for overflow (too high) or when water drops when pump sucks air (too low)? I wold assume too low to shut off pump... Not sure why the float switch doesn’t trigger it. I’ve tested it. The controller lights up, but doesn’t shut off. Same pump and float switch for my skimmer and it works properly when my skimmer cup gets too full. I’m at a loss. Since it triggered the high water in my skimmer collection cup (too high) I started why I thought maybe the float switch was meant for display

That’s what I thought too.... doesn’t work that way though...

Did you sort this out?? I found the wire needs to stick out the bottom and the float is at the top.

I have not yet no... do you have a photo to share to describe what you mean? So basically the float valve needs to be upside down?

Just scanned the instructions from the book. The orientation of the float switch determines its function. According to this, there is writing that says TOP, which should indicate which installation is appropriate for your setup:
