Question for those of you who use Brute bins for long term storage. I'm only now noticing they are advertised as "vented" which raises concerns for long term salt water storage (2 to 3 weeks).

Those of you who are using these are you noticing any issues with evap, precipitation, or bacterial buildup?

I would use a pump to circulate water regardless of the container. Some salts have a shelf life after mixing. I use brute cans and if you use a heater depending on room temp you will get condensation on the lid. I haven't had any notable evaporation. Bacteria would be difficult to comment on. I would stick to making up a week or 2 worth of water at a time.

I was under the impression for long term storage you don't want to be mixing or heating the water but maybe it's a bit different if it has air exposure. For what it's worth I'm using Red Sea blue bucket and it stores just fine in tightly sealed 5 gallon jugs for weeks but I'm weary of longer exposure to air.

If you dont run flow or heat I would imagine the air turnover in the trash can will be very minimal. I also would imagine bacteria exposure very low. You could put plastic wrap on the top to help seal? Im not sure why the long term storage is appealing. The salt will fall out of suspension at some point with no mixing.

Maybe some saran wrap... it's more for ease of use. I'm more likely to stick to my 10% weekly changes I like to do if it's as little work as possible 😅
