Hello all,

I am a three year reefer already retiring. Just don’t have the funds or time to keep up anymore and have to move where I can’t take my reeftank with me.

To be honest I was getting frustrated since I believed I have a bad Vermatid infestation.

Anyway I cleaned out my tank today and thought I’d share this picture of my plumbing from my overflow. I want to know if this is obscene or normal and what exactly is going on.

Sounds like you are already set on leaving, which at times is a wise decision. But to answer the questions: The pump isn’t normal for certain but that could’ve been fixed with a pump guard/screen.

The stuff covering everything looks to be a mix of three things which are: vermetid, feather dusters, and a variety of sponges. I’ve seen these all before in my own tank and they only really hurt me when I grab a rock without gloves. Wrasse and bumblebee snails seemed to have done good work for the vermetid but of course the sump always still has some especially right at the outlets.

There is of course more things in addition to the three but those are the main three that i see.
