So now that wireless technology is getting more and more commonplace, what do you think about a wireless powerheads using this technology to run electricity to the powerhead through the glass. I know the main drawback would be having a lithium ion battery inside the housing which would be in the aquarium. You could rotate and point the powerhead without wires in the tank. Would you be interested in a product like this?

Vortech use inductive power energy to run the propellers. Not exactly wireless electeisity.
Propeller is basically a metal pol inside a giant inductor. If you charge the inductor the pol will rotate..
Vortech wet side is the propeller, the dry side is the inductor.
Using inductive charging is not cheap and not efficient and require giant inductors( the more energy you want to pass or harness, the bigger the inductor should be) thats why vortech will work up to a certain separation distance only.
I do see inductive charging go beyond low power application like the vortech usecase unfortunately..

Yes I’m talking about what we use to charge our cellphones, watches etc. It wouldn’t be the same technology Vortech uses but could have more features.

Lithium battery in my fish tank......

Forums says no swearing allowed.

First vortech makes a semi quality product. Can only imagine how many tanks this would nuke, plus blowing up on the glass may take out the tank. The size of the battery to run it would be capable of this.

Don’t quite understand why. It’s already a minimal foot print for the wet side. Flow can be stream or conical with a nem guard.
I picked vortech for the small profile.

I would go to a gyre over anything bigger than a mp wet side.

If your in some kind of competition to make a new vortech a double tier screw head that adjust shape and angle of flow would be great.

All these are low power applications and super inefficient.. it will not go beyond that unless efficiency improved significantly.
There are startups out there trying to improve this technology some of which would integrate their solution in your access point and will charge phones from a long distances without placing it on a charging mat.. but they have long way to go

I would be worried off having a battery submerged inside water regardless of how water profe housing is...but it's been done in watches as an example. The problem is in watches the battery is tiny, for a power head you meed bigger battery.
Products that are IP68 can survive water for 60min... putting product 24/7 under water is completly diffrent story. Smallest water lack can cause hug issues to the water chemistry and kill all its inhabitants...

So if you put a large puddle of salt water between the charging mat and your phone what will happen?

Nothing. It will only reduce the efficiency of the inductive charbing. But if this peddle lacked and shorted your phone battery you will deal with fire and poison fums

If you vape or have ever vaped you know the damage a small battery is capable of when over charge or over discharges. Amp limits are stated for such reasons.

I’m good with wires.

Between the gyre options and the vortechs, I personally feel that we have safer options to have a more visually appealing layout out, except for some rather larger tanks or oddly shaped aquariums.

Vortechs are hands down the best in my openion..heated slot of good things about gyre. But you cannot beat how sleek vortechs are without all the wires...

Now.......If you could just point them at some sort of angle

Double tier screw cap for angle and flow. First ring turns to adjust from stream to conical. Second ring would be a slide ring inside a rotating ring. You could adjust angle and direction from that.

I’ve seen a lot of the Vortechs in action and have always loved how unobtrusive they were, but I personally have never bought one. I run ice cap gyres, Jebaos and a bunch of other lesser known power heads.
