Vortech Foam Guards - cleaning methods

I just recently started using the foam guards for my Vortech MP40's (a snail got caught in the propeller resulting in a wet side replacement) - I'm wondering what others have done to give them a deep cleaning? Was considering soaking in equals parts vinegar/water.. I've cleaned pumps/power-heads with vinegar/water but not foam or filter sponges.. Anyone see an issue with this?

Vinegar/ water always works the best imo
