My yellow watchmen Gobi seems to be homeless now, I haven’t seen my pistol shrimp in about two weeks, and the burrow appears to be unkept and collapsed or at least the entrance is blocked. The Gobi is acting as though he’s looking for a new burrow, I see him in different spots of the tank often.

I’d like to build him a new burrow by using some sort of pipe pressed into the sand somewhere, any suggestions on the material? I’m worried about leeching or accidentally poisoning the tank so any suggestions are appreciated.

PVC pipe is always a good bet, get like an elbow or something in the smallest you can find just for him and see if he likes it. Wonder if your shrimp caused a cave in and passed :(

Yeah my wife and I were wondering that as well, their burrow was made right underneath a triangular looking piece of rock, separated from all other interlocking rock to create a sort of “island” feel. It’s possible it did collapse with no other support around. We’ve had the pair for about 6 months so it’s a bummer.

Would glass be fine in the tank? I’m even considering getting another pistol shrimp.

I would assume glass would be fine, I said PVC since they like dark burrows but if you made something with glass and used like reef epoxy or something to stick sand or rocks on it to make a cave maybe he would like that!

i'd go for another pistol shrimp if you can get one, they make such a great pair, probably the most interesting behavior in any of my tankmates
