Water changes

hey everyone , still class myself new to the hobby.

Just wanted to ask a question about water changes

Do you

1 heat your water to the desired temperature ready to change

2 change Water as it is out your storing container

I did a water change earlier I have 60lt tank I changed the sump which is about 5-6lt I’m going to doing this weekly . Is this enough and temps dropping from 25C to 16-17c and then takes about an hour to get back to 25c

Should I heat it first and is the amount I’m doing okay

try to keep the water as close to temperature and parameters as the old water as it makes it less likely for any imbalances or spikes to occur from the water change.

In theory you should. But....my water change heater broke last year and I've been doing water changes since with cold water. My tank temp drops about 5-6 degrees every time, I've never noticed any issue. It hasn't hurt my corals, fish, inverts, even my seahorses. I don't feel its a good practice, but with 3 tanks I always need something, hence the procrastination to spend $50 on a spare heater.

I have a routine where I run hot water in the bathtub up to about halfway up on my 5-gallon buckets of saltwater. I then go to siphon out the water in my tank, which takes 30 to 45 minutes. By the time I finish, the water in the buckets in the tub has been warmed to within 1 or 2 degrees of the aquarium tank water. You can adjust the rate of your bucket water heating by filling the tub higher or lower for your buckets of salt water (the higher the level of hot water the faster it warms up the buckets). It's very effective for me, and you can use a $5.00 thermometer to verify the temperature in one bucket, and it will be consistent across all buckets. This saves you from having to have multiple heaters for multiple buckets, and it's actually much faster.

when I did one water change a week, for a while I did, then I stopped. My displays would swing 2-3 degrees, which is nothing. My tank swings 3 degrees everyday due to my halides. Zero issues from it. Now that I do AWC, I don’t eleven think about it.
