Iam wondering if Iam doing my water changes to often.I do 27 gallons every two weeks on my 125 mixed reef.I read some where that doing them to often can sometimes be more harm then good

It really depends on your tank and what is in it, if you have a high bio load sps type tank I think you would be fine.

I don't think that schedule is too much. I was changing 20gal every week on a 100gal system. I've since reduced to 20gal every other week, and didn't see much of a difference except for more salt in my bucket :)

that is a lot more than I do for water changes. I rarely do changes, unless something is off. Not trying to start a debate, just posting my husbandry.

Water changes are just something I've always been pretty adamant about since I've done saltwater.

I am going to try to do better with my WCs this time around! If I can do about 10% a week I would be happy. We'll see what happens.

I do a 20g change each week on my 90g with 30g sump. Ths is my first week of stretching it out to every two weeks. I run a good skimmer so I'm sure it will be okay.

Just curious if anybody has increased water changes and noticed improvements in their tank. Or even the opposite, decreased and noticed no changes at all. I'd be curious to see if we all just waste water and salt on too many water changes.

I do 5 gal a week on my mostly fowlr 75g. I should probably do 10 according to all the knowledgable people here but I'm not sure it would make a difference other than emptying the salt bucket faster.

I do a 20g water change on my 180g every week. My corals always seem happier after a water change. I wish i could go without so frequent water changes but my bio load is high.

I change 12 gal on my 75 every week. I tried to do it every 2 weeks for about 2 months and my corals seemed to suffer. So i went back to every week and they look great again.

I try and do about 15g on a 120g tank. That seems a little on the light side compared to most of the posters on this thread. When I ran Zeovit I got in the habit of only doing a 5-10% water change each week per Zeo instructions, that has kind of stuck even though I don't run the Zeo anymore. I think watching your animals and how they are doing is the best way to gauge whether your general husbandry routine is working for your tank. Every tank is different.

I do 25-30 gallons on an approx. 330g system every 10 days or so.
Might be a 10% and I know others do up to 25%. So I would say you are doing good.

What I would really like to do is set up a system that would do constant WC's all day long.
A couple locals have them and they sound really cool. Have yet to see them in person though.
