Don't use tap water, get some bottles of distilled water from the grocery store instead. The best solution is to have your own rodi unit.

The chloride in saltwater will detoxify nitrite. It's highly doubtful that any water conditioners actually detoxify ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate despite what's printed on the bottles.
