Water evaporation!

The only way would be to add a humidifier to the room where tank is. I lose about 7-8 gallons a week in my tank so I implemented a ato so it keeps my water level stable.

Reeferjoe, that's what I thought at first. But I got another issue. If I cover it, it will raise my tanked temp. And I live in tropical country. Thanks!

For my 125g setup evaporation is around 1.25 gallons a day, it has an open top but did cover the refugium section of sump to minimize losses a bit. ATO's are a huge benefit to a Reeftank.

Cheers, Todd

Tj, I got 20g w/sump and I top off 1.5 up to 2 liters daily. Like I ask reeferjoe if I cover sump partial or full I'm afraid that will raise my tank temp. Thanks

This certainly is true as far as the higher the relative humidity, the lower the amount of evaporation.....but has anyone ever done this? The humidity in my house just from the tank is through the roof. I couldn't imagine raising it higher. I have a terrible problem with condensation as it is in the winter time. I actually run a de-humidifier on the second floor of the house because I was getting condensation on the cool plaster walls in the winter.

You can create higher humidity around your tank by putting a closed (or almost closed) canopy over the tank. I've done this with a nano I have and it's dropped evaporation to about a quarter of what I was getting when it was fully open. Note that I now have mold on the inside of this canopy. The canopy on my 90 is open on the top, and I lose about 2 gallons a day in the winter....about 1 1/2 gallons during warmer weather.

You can buy an ATO kit online for $40. Add a pump, some tubing, and a container and you're off and running.

we loose about 3 gallons a day. we have a 60 Shallow and a 30G shallow plumbed both open face as well as the side door to the 60G stand. so there is a ton of evaporation going on there :(
