So I am in the middle of an algae bloom or Dinos (not likely per another post of mine) but will confirm when my microscope comes in. During this my waters started smelling like low-tide/marsh-like and the whole basement smells like it. The water is also tinted yellow without the lights on and using natural room light. I have the recommended amount of of activated carbon in media bags placed in my sump for the last 24 hrs. It doesn't seem to have made a huge difference yet.

I am not doing water changes yet until I verify that it isn't Dinos as well as keeping the skimmer off.

Any recommendations or just keep letting the carbon run for a couple more days?

Carbon in the tank. Open basement windows if you have them or you can get some of the odor absorbing stuff; like damp rid. It will go away once your issues are under control

Okay great.

How well is your air circulating in your basement?

Basement has a 3rd zone down there so circulation should be decent.

I would run the skimmer. It should help you pull some of that gunk out, as well as keeping your gas excange up. Your water could be getting stagnant. How's your ph looking?

Small bag of carbon and air it a bit. Smell will be gone in no time.
