ok so i was looking at my tank and all of a sudden i saw like 5 of these tiny little things start bouncing around
i thought at first amphipods but the more i looked at them they seemed slimmer and they seemed to fight with each other as well dose anyone know what these tiny guys are
the best way i can describe them are small and long with two antennas and then small little arm things
and i know they aren’t the best pictures as well as the vid i’m going to try to post

It’s most likely some kind of amphipod, but the exact ID, I do not know. I wouldn’t imagine they’d be an issue, but I’d keep an eye on them. If they do become a problem, you could probably try a reef-safe wrasse

yea that’s what i was thinking was just getting a wrasse they seemed to leave all my corals alone though they are normally on the glass and near the sand

Isopod. I don’t want these in my tanks as they can grow large
Food for a lunare or melanurus wrasse

how big do they get
1/4”, or even a tad larger
While many isopods are free living and harmless or even beneficial to the tank, a large number are either predatory, or parasitic, or dangerous to other reef fish or coral as they can latch onto them.

I have a ton in my tank right now, cause my tank is currently on its 74th day of being fallow. With there being no fish, and pods galore, these things are everywhere! I haven’t seen them bother the corals though, and my coral banded shrimp is having a blast. I’m sure once the fish are introduced it’ll balance out

As I mentioned, some are predatory, not all. I’m just not willing to take that chance
