Hey everyone, I've recently noticed some white strand algae in my Sump.

I have no clue what it could be.

The algae appeared when i moved my sump equipment in order to add the ClariSea. The strands seem to have become worse since then.

I also included a wavemaker in the sump to assist with the dosing process.

If anyone has similar algae or has any clue how to eradicate/remove it.... please let me know!!!

Kinda hard to tell from the pictures, but I have a strange question, maybe, do you use filter floss? I've seen filter floss that had fibers that were just too small and out get into the tank and it kind looked like that.

I agree that it's kinda hard to tell but my guess would be that it's sponges. They're very common in dark areas especially in newer tanks (I'm assuming yours is fairly new).

Sorry about the picture quality, Ill try to attach better ones.

I mostly use the ClariSea but i do throw in filter floss to prevent any other debris from going into my return pump section.

I dont believe theyre filter floss fibres.... theyre growing :(

Please take a look at the new pictures below, hopefully theyre better.

Are sponges white and stringy? I thought they grew like a sphere shape.

My tank has been running for about a year, so it is fairly new.

There are thousands if not millions of species of sponge in the world. They grow in just about every shape you can imagine. Pineapple sponges (which I think I see a couple of) are basically round, yes, but the stringy things could very well also be some form of sponge.

Algae usually isn't white, and wouldn't be growing in the sump, since it's dark in there.
