my partner recently brought home a new addition to the tank a large green carpet anenome. It has been doing great and is being hosted by the clown fish it came with. But this afternoon a stringy red substance has been coming out of his mouth it is quite fine and easily brakes of if touched. What is it?
Thank you

I would probably assume it’s the food he ate, and it made a red waste. Do you have a nudibranch (sea slug) in the tank??) And it isn’t curled up. It looks healthy, I would just do a water test too, let me know the conditions once your done! Good luck! :)

It is zooxanthellae. Nothing to be overly concerned about. It's common for them to adjust their zooxanthellae population while acclimating to a new environment. Just pay close attention to the anemones color over the next few weeks. If this continues, the anemone will "bleach". As long as the anemone keeps its color, and doesn't fade, you don't have much to worry about. The anemone should stop expelling zooxanthellae soon.
Peace

Hi all! thank you for all the replies and it’s POO! ;FacepalmWe finally got ahold of our local fish guy not long after I posted and he had a chuckle over our worries.
I don’t have a huge amount of knowledge of marine fish/coral ec ... (my partner is the more knowledgeable one but I would love to get more information) so it’s great to know this forum is a helpful place.
And the answer to doggo no we don’t have a sea slug.
And thank you ;Woot
