What are the small white pods in my cheato?

In the cheato in my Pax Bellum reactor there are small white and soft pods. What are these?

I hope not, otherwise I just killed them by exposing them to air.

Little sponges. They're pretty hardy as long as you don't rinse them off and damage the structure. Plus, they'll be back. Good little filter feeders.
