Has anyone had any success with stopping red cyano before it gets into the tank? I'm not looking at getting an RODI system, is there any additives I could use? its is a 13.5 gallon tank.

What's the objection to a rodi system? Water is the basis of everything in this hobby. That's like saying I want to run a reef in this hole i dug in the ground, im not going to use a liner, how do I keep the dirt out. Chemicals is no guarantee. Maybe enough bleach, I guess.

RODI for the win man, just the known benefit of having 0 tds water at all times it just too good, also crank up the flow abit, and whenever i do a bare bottom tank i almost never deal with cyano.

The best method to prevent cyano is to leave the tank dry lol.

In all seriousness, I don’t think you will ever prevent it 100%. When I have gotten it, it’s been in areas of low flow. I’ve used chemiclean to get rid of it in the past and that worked great, but it can have negative affects on your tank as well so use it cautiously.
