What Elements Make A Good Skimmer?

Last night, late, I started tinkering with a design for a skimmer. Lots of room for improvements (like a longer neck).

The bottom port is for the skimmer pump.

So my question is:
What design elements produce a skimmer with the best performance?

Don't worry about manufacturing or cost constraints, it will be 3d printed ;)

I think adjustability/controllability are probably the most important factors. . .

Side note: I really like the fact that my skimmer can mount to the side wall of the tank (magnet), makes height adjustment super easy!

you prefer to physically slide the skimmer to adjust it? how do you get it back to the right place after cleaning it?

Either visual reference (like the cup sits at the height of the sump etc.) or could mark on the outside of the sump (for the external magnet).
