What impresses you about someone’s reef tank?

Is it a lot of expensive fish or just healthy fish?

Is it super crazy colored coral frags or is it mature colonies that have grown large?

Is it a very clean tank or is one that’s covered in coralline?

Is it a massive display tank with an extensive life support system or a tiny minimal ecosystem that’s growing together in harmony?

What is it for you, when you see it, you’re impressed?

I am always impressed by every tank that I see that's been up and running for over a year. It's very cool to see the tanks transformation after stability is reached. It takes a lot to keep a system consistent, clean and growing. Best of luck to all :)

A tank that is thriving, that you can tell a lot of care, attention, and time is paid to it. I feel like lighting plays a huge part in highlighting corals and fish and making everything really pop!

Expensive fish/equipment/corals don't instantly impress me. I would rather see a cheap setup meticulously planned and maintained over a super expensive set-up that doesn't get appreciated.

Honestly, I say a tank that is mature and has a variety of coral and fish in it. I also would say large tanks as well since I could not imagine the upkeep on those tanks, and all the time and effort required for them as well.

Healthy fish, simple selection with a well color balance.
A Unique, clean aquascape.
A nice mix of corals, massive sps colonies that have a balanced mix of color, giving you the essence of a natural reef.

This tank meets the criteria:
Jake did a great job presenting it.

Healthy inhabitants, color, cleanliness (lack of cyano, dinos, nuisance algae, etc), and size of the system. For some odd reason, I also like to look under the hood. I guess I want to see what is keeping it going.

Just about everything. Landscape I wish I had done better. Types of animals, I like a mixed reef including cuc. Plumbing, lighting, filtration, where the tank is displayed. So if I come to your house or store I’m checking everything and keeping Opinions to myself

Fat, happy fish, and well fed corals. And not directly related to the system itself, I love seeing someone who is excited and passionate about their tank when you see them talking about it/giving you a tour of their setup, no matter the size.

I don't really care for fish, but a large, mature reef with some big healthy nems and lps/sps like acros and torches with a nice clean sand bed and clean glass is what really impresses me.

What impresses me is a well laid out tank with healthy corals and a nice variety of fish. A 15 gallon tank filled with Ricordea, RFAs, gorgonians and macro with a nice assortment of nano fish is just as nice as a 150 with full colonies and an assortment of tangs and wrasses.
