As the title says, what inspired you to start your tank? Was it seeing the ocean and knowing you just needed a piece of it? If so what part were you inspired by? And for the FOWLR tanks what inspired you guys to stay away from the corals? Also, feel free to leave pictures?

I will go first, I had seen pictures and videos of the Red Sea in Egypt and I just fell in love. After months of convincing my dad finally let me get a tank.

Seeing other people's tanks, and my wife having a tank when we first started dating, made me want to get a tank.

I think I've had an aquarium of some sort since I was like 10. I would go out in the woods to the local creeks and find crawfish, small catfish, and other fish to put in it and release them when they got too big for it, or I wanted something different.

When I got to college-age I went to a legitimate fish store and was introduced to saltwater aquarium systems and it has been all downhill from there 😅

Wow, usually people say they have to convince their wife’s to let them get fish! Do you guys have an agreement about who stops the other from buying too many things

That’s awesome! Would you say that expert saltwater or freshwater gets harder?

I don't consider myself an expert but some technical freshwater systems can be just as hard as high end SPS dominant reef systems.

My fist tank was always inspired by a friend’s tank I saw in high school. His dad had a saltwater tank had an arrow crab that always stuck in my head. Had the fever since that day. It took about 20 years …but I finally set up my first reef tank. Funny thing….never got that crab! 😂

Not a reef but saltwater because of a CB butterfly fish

I went to a Petco about 35 years ago and noticed a YT Damsel in it. Had to have one. So I bought the gear (which wasn't much back in the day) and started up with absolutely NO knowledge on the subject. THAT was a steep learning curve!!
