I drip acclimated and dipped (Bayer) a new green hairy mushroom (rhodactis sp) about 10 days ago. Since then, it has looked very good, and was opening more and more each day. Today, this lesion appeared suddenly. It's purplish, with a mucous strand extending from it. Does anyone have any idea what this is, and what I should do about it? I'm also having trouble with some radioactive green zoas, added on the same day, which initially were doing great, and then started having a few polyps that will not open.

I've noticed some large amphipods (I think) roaming around the zoas. Can they bother softies?

Thanks in advance.

Live stock: fire shrimp, pom pom crab (2x), astria snails (8x), a good number of pods from a ball of chaeto that's growing in sump

The coral is expelling waster and or zooxanthellae, I see some internal structures called mesenterial filaments. Could be a sign of stress but typically the coral returns to normal in few hours with no intervention warranted.

Thanks, Tahoe. I think you were spot on. I checked the coral a few hours after posting, and the lesion was gone. There are still some whitish areas here and there, that concern me. I wasn't overly impressed with the live stock from the supplier I used, so I'm a little concerned with the zoas I ordered as well, which all opened initially, but have been slowly closing over the past few days. Most are fully open, but it seems like every day, a couple more close up. Weird - fingers crossed.
