Well I am changing the gyres and flow in the tank if I see no improvement I am willing to change the matrix out for something else

If I do replace the matrix what would you suggest I toss in the sump instead. I have some ceramic rings in there and a dry rock as wellI disagree. I ran mine for a couple months before the issues started and ended as soon as I removed it. Honestly it’s hard to see what’s even wrong with your monti but “grey” means it’s metabolic process is shutting down (dying). Try taking a pic with your lights set to 6.5-10k if you can
Let’s start over. How big is your tank, what lights are you using, how many fish do you have and how much do you feed a day?If I do replace the matrix what would you suggest I toss in the sump instead. I have some ceramic rings in there and a dry rock as well
40b plus 20 sump. G4 xr30w pro /w diffuser running on coral ab+ schedule 55%Let’s start over. How big is your tank, what lights are you using, how many fish do you have and how much do you feed a day?
First of all. Feed your fish more. Don’t be afraid of no3/po4. This is my 50g display40b plus 20 sump. G4 xr30w pro /w diffuser running on coral ab+ schedule 55%
I have 6 fish in there, and I feed twice a day. Frozen once and the other time I switch it up with flakes or masstick, different stuff
I can feed more; I actually used to feed more but then my nitrates spiked since I didnt have a sump but used a canister. Ever since the sump and the skimmer install my nitrates have lowered permanently to 2ppm. I can take some matrix out little by little and see what happens to my parameters.First of all. I have around 12 fish that get fed about 4 frozen cubes per day. I just use a skimmer and grow chaeto in the middle chamber of my sump.
Now I’m not showing off (well...maybe a little) just proving my advice comes from experience.
Honestly I would rip all that matrix out and start growing some chaeto if you think you need to more filtration, which I don’t believe you do.
Same. Except for 55% brightness. Im 100% sure its not the light. 5 other sps right next to it doing great. I think its either the flow or I might be underfeeding the tank since my filtration is really strongHow high up is the coral placed? I have mine under G4 (60%) and only a few inches under the water line
Sounds good. I run an mp10 about parallel to them so that could be it. I do have higher nitrates than you (~10-15)Same. Except for 55% brightness. Yeah I think I am gonna work on raising nitratesSounds good. I run an mp10 about parallel to them so that could be it. I do have higher nitrates than you (~10-15)
So I have a 167 peninsula for almost a year now. I’ve got high nitrates and phosphates that I’ve been battling (nitrates 50/phosphate now 4.4). I did add a bag of seachem matrix maybe a moth ago and my monti cap and a blue milli went bye bye. But I have other spa corals that are growing. I currently have a skimmer, huge chaeto ball, I change filter floss regularly. I have 21 fish, feed nori in the morning, flakes midday, frozen for dinner, not a whole lot each feeding (food is gone within 2-5 minutes). I dose acropower daily, three scoops of reef roofs and about 20-30 mls of phytoplankton daily. What do you recommend I do to bring nutrients down?First of all. Feed your fish more. I would start by doing some 50% water changes and stop the reef roids and phyto. Then, depending on the impact of that, reduce the amount you’re feeding. I only feed frozen once per day. I also dose lanthium chloride to bring my po4 down below 0.20.So I have a 167 peninsula for almost a year now.
