How fast can a mandarin demolish pods? I used to have one in my 4 gallon nuvo pico that I never put pods in and he lived for a couple of months. After a while he just quit eating. I fed him frozen brine shrimp. What caused him to do that?

Mandarins are constantly eating through out the day and can quickly deplete a small aquariums pod population. Frozen brine shrimp has little to no nutritional value on its own. If you are serious about keeping mandarins a 29 gallon tank is on the small side. A larger environment is needed or lots of pods need to be raised / purchased for food to keep the fish properly fed.

1 mandarin can wipe 1000 gallon system in a week haha but my girls biocube i left like 10 bioballs in threw a bunch of liverock and seeded it with a macro to get the pods growin , mandarins hunt as soon as those lights go on till wen they go off, i found that if i spot feed brine live nd frozen in the morning and at night it keeps the pod population in check

U dont have to buy pods honestly i would love to culture my own would be awesome just dont have time too , the macros is up to u i juss tossed a packload of live rock in the back and left like 10 bioballs thats it, every once in a while i take the balls out and swish em in my tank, but if you cant spotfeed the mandarin u might run into trouble . Ivr had mine for 3 years and just got it to start eating mysis

You could buy those pack of pods , i thought they were bs nd was a moron for spendin 15 dollars in them but it acually worked , started with dry rock and sand dump it the back and wait atleast a month or 2 before you add the madarin

Yup make sure u give it some time , be ready to have another girlfriend tho they take a real lot of work if you cant get it to eat frozen foods, nd make sure when u buy it isnt skinny as bones come some lfs are fedup nd leave them to starv
