It depends on your space and budget but I personally like something deeper than 12". Go for the largest footprint your light budget can handle without wasting energy (light spill). Deep blue used to make nice frag tanks but I dont think there is a right or wrong answer here

As long as you can reach in without it being a hassle than it is shallow enough. The shallower the less water = less expensive for maintenance. No need for height with frags. Less lighting needed for shallow water. Personally I like 12-14" height for frag tank. I don't mind a little extra room for larger mini colonies.

I think what you want to have in the tank will have some factor in to this. If you want just SPS or just LPS or just softy/polyps, depth probably doesn’t mean much. If you would like all three, I would go for at minimum 16 inches. There has to be variance for par and flow that will be much harder to achieve with a more shallow tank.

I personally have a deep blue 80 which is 48” x 24” x 16”

Thank all. I think the deep blue frag tank is the ideal size for a tank. Just finding one is a pain in the butt.

Deep Blue 60 here - it's about the right size for my needs.

Also try seapora, they’re the same as deep blue but I think offered in different areas

Because your limited with flow when shallower and can't really grow large corals. not to mention less space for fish. I think 12" is still good but anything less for me would be a no go.
