What is this? Baby snail? Pest?

I noticed this snail guy climbing the glass today and wondered what it was.

I thought it may be a cerith snail but I have none of those in my tank.

The only snails I I own are my 3rd trochus snail that just died! I can’t seam to keep them alive and a tiger conch.

What is this? Thank you!

it can be a dove snail which is good but it looks more like some kind of whelk
theses are dove snails for reference, if you could get a less blurry and more light picture of it on the glass would be nice.

Yeah, better pics would help, but that looks like a carnivorous snail to me.

I agree with @ISpeakForTheSeas it looks like the snail is more like rough looking and not round and clean. As in it looks like it has rough surface.

I have not been able to keep alive trochus snails. Could a whelk snail take down a trochus?

It would have to be about the same size as the trochus or larger, I believe.

Yes and what @Tired said. You may have more than one as they seem to be nocturnal. Check with a flashlight when lights are out. They are not difficult to remove as they are slow.

Tell tale of some whelks is the leopard print on the top of the soft bits.

I was able to remove this guy today. I am not sure if there are more but we will see.
