This line of grey stuff appeared yesterday morning. It appears like it could be coming from the hermit crab. Other heirs were clustering about. Could it be eggs?

Whatever it was, it’s mostly gone today. I observed a nassarius on it last night, perhaps it ate it all? My coral banded shrimp was curious but seemed to leave it alone. No fish in tank (doing fallow for ich).

If it was eggs, it would have been awesome to get baby hermits. Was there something I coulda/shoulda done to help protect and hatch them? (I’m a reef noob, just 4 months in.)
Thanks!

They look like eggs to me; but crab vs snail, I am not sure.
