White slimy chunks like this are showing up on rocks all over my aquarium. What are they?!

When u say, all over your rock. Is it actually in the shaded areas mostly?

Ummm...sort of? The one I photo'd really isn't unless you count that it gets shaded by the shroom somewhat.

There was initially just the one on the shroom's frag rock, so I thought maybe a developing polyp...but now there are more where the mushroom has never been.

Sorry but I'm not going to say sponge. Just based on the pic & your slimy description.
The sponges I've seen & have are in no way shiny & slimy looking like your pic shows.

I thought that was a little odd. Other suggestions? It's not really shiny but the outer layer is clearish...

Thankfully, it doesn't appear to be bothering the shroom it's next to at all.

I did some googling and I believe it is indeed a sponge. The transparent part is a mucus coat that some sponges in shallower water have.

Thanks, guys!

Now...to find something that eats them...they might be helpful but I find this particular variety awfully ugly.
