i’m putting together a 40 gallon breeder, and i need help picking a return pump. i want a dc pump that’s very low noise but i don’t know what “size” to get.
i’m going to plumb it with an eshopps prodigy m, 1” drain and 3/4” return.
TIA

That overflow has a max flowrate of 700gph. I'd look for a pump that allows for that max, including the head height from your sump to the tank. Since you're looking for a DC pump, you can then dial down if you'd like to whatever you want.
I don't consider my return as part of my main water movement, so I don't really subscribe to the whole 10x turnover rate (or whatever people are saying now). I go with what works for my setup.

i have a Mighty Jet 538 on one of my 40 Breeders, it's about the limit of a single 1" drain. i have a Current USA 6010 on another 40 Breeder with 1.5" drain bulkhead. the Mighty Jet is dead silent and has a pulse feature as well as feed mode built in.
