It's all about what you're comfortable with. Larger tanks = larger investments
The investment was the reason to start small. After amassing 10 FW tanks over the last couple years, the wife (or boss, they're interchangeable lol) wasn't too excited about how much SW equipment costs. But she's almost converted, she loves the corals and my little "nemos"

I know all about the investment lol. I’ve had freshwater tanks for the past 45 years. Last year my wife wanted to go saltwater. Reluctantly I agreed and now we have a 200 gallon fowlr tank in our kitchen and a 350 gallon reef in our living Room. So much for retirement lol

My 1st reef was a 29 biocube. Ran it for a couple of years and really enjoyed it. I took it down shortly after setting up the 125, so I guess it proved to be a bad investment. In reality though that 1st tank taught me a lot and affirmed my commitment to the hobby before I invested A LOT more on the larger tank.

Oddly enough, I wound up giving the biocube to my brother so he could downsize from his 75.
