What the heck is this!

Anyone know what these are? I have seen them a few times today k saw one of my crabs grab one and looks like he’s eating it. I have a few of them on the sand bed and no clue where they came from.

It looks like the door/hatch for a snail shell.

Have you noticed any empty or dead snails?

Looks like the trap door of a previous snail known as operculum, but pics under white lighting would truly confirm. This is what we see:
