So I placed on online order with Dr. Reef - a magnificent fox face, PBT, 4 blue chromis, and a sea hare. Was supposed to be here at 10:30 - less than 16 hours transit time. I got an update this morning that there was a flight delay and now the order will arrive tomorrow morning at 10:30.

Do these guys have any chance at all? I'll obviously do whatever it takes to revive them if they're alive, but I'm wondering if they even have a chance. Does anyone have any experience with an online shipment of 40 hours?

Thanks in advance. BTW, Dr. Reef rocks - he already assured me that any losses will be replaced and he'll deal with UPS. Communication has been excellent; can't recommend him/her enough!

I've had things delayed, its maddening, but most survive.

This is from another thread:

I would be very careful using an airstone in the water that the fish was shipped in and leaving it in for an extended period of time. Ammonia in the water is non toxic until the ph rises when the bags opened and especially when used with an air stone. I would temperature match the bag, then salinity match to the shipping water a new bucket of water. Transfer in and prepare a fast drip to match salinity.

I would add if the salinity in your tank is within 1-2 of the shipping water, I wouldn't hesitate in my tank to plop the fish right in to the tank.

I appreciate the replies and optimism: I plan on following Dr. Reef acclimation procedure. If they look okay Ill do the temp acclimation. If they're in distress, in they go. Im hoping for the best.

This happened to me mid winter last year. Used an acclimation box. Watched closely. It was a setback, but you can get through that. Good luck

Final results from this 24 hour delay in shipping:

Alive and well: PBT, one chromis, and the sea hare

The magnificent foxface was in extremis on arrival and died shortly thereafter. Two out of the 4 chromis were DOA and one “disappeared” on day 3.

Everything was taken care of by Dr Reef and replacements are coming this Thursday - hopefully no delays by UPS.

Interesting that PBT survived and is thriving given the delicate nature of this fish.

So sorry about your losses! At least the PBT survived!
