In straight terms, this fish has been a victim of aggression and these were bitten off in the past although I have seen defective fin growth with captive bred tangs. The fins will not recover/restore to normal shape. From this point forward, provide good water quality (not with cheap test methods) and diet. Some foods to offer are"
LRS herbivore diet
Formula 2 flake and frozen
TDO Pellets
small plankton
Hikari Marine cuisine
Ocean nutrition veggie diet
spirulina brine shrimp
mysis shrimp
Prime reef
Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract

Add selcon vitamins to foods occasionally

Thank you! These two fish were brought into my local LFS in a glass pickle jar. The gentleman said his tank at home had a leak and he was looking to rehome them. The clown is large but very skinny. The tang seems to be dull and, as you said, need better nutrition. I’m going to try to help them out. :). Thanks again.

I can’t say about the clownfish because it isn’t really visible, but the yellow tang has head and lateral line erosion. This is a disfiguring disease that isn’t really fatal.
Also called HLLE, yellow tangs show it differently than other fish - the fin erosion is typical. It is caused by carbon use and generally poor aquarium conditions.
It most likely is permanently disfigured, but may live a long time now that you have it in better conditions.

Thank you. I think the clownfish is just thin and in need of some good food. I wasn’t too concerned about it. But I’ve never seen anything like what the tang has going on. You guys are so helpful!!
I absolutely love that I found this group!!!!
