So approaching the 3 month mark and same diatoms just won’t die out. Read many things on let it take it’s course… so at what point do your dose and fight back.?

Are you certain that the scourge is caused by a diatom?

Algae comes for everyone. Rather than being upset, see it as progression. Especially because it's going to get much worse than just diatoms.

As mentioned above a description of parameters, tank pic, and you clean up crew will help out.

Algae can be managed but eradication will have mixed results. Best to remove what you can during water changes, manage parameters and have a proper CuC.

AFAIK, there is nothing you can dose to remove diatoms.
They go away on their own once they have consumed all the silica in the tank.

Are you sure your RODI system is giving you TDS zero water?

You're going to get much worse algae soon anyway so don't stress about it.

have you tried to copepods route for diatoms?

I would assume having both copepods to help with diatoms and keeping your fish happy with snacks would be a win win move, even if diatoms wasn't completely taken care of.

Can check I’ll admit I have not but it’s on newer side so did not think too. Live in Detroit which is in the top five for best water. One of the good top were known for lol.

Everything seems about the way it should. Diatoms will cease once the silicate in the sand is all used up. So really just a waiting game. My only recommendations would be dosing live phyto, and if algae gets bad get a package from reefcleaners.org for 1/2 your tank size. Will add a little diversity also.

I’m pretty sure copepods consume diatoms among other things

Just wait till you have to hire a crack berghia nudibranch special forces team to go behind the lines of an aiptasia army. Or drop a chemiclean nuke from orbit on a cyano horde, or manually remove gha weekly with a backhoe. All in year one. Diatoms won’t seem so bad.

Pods can help though.

Fighting is part of the fun imo. Still in good spirits.

I’ll admit everything is growing and doing well. Even that anemone I should not have is stretched out close to 7 inches and corals are growing. Just hate this sand lol

It will go away on its own in the near future.
