When to start dosing?

Hi everybody!

I have been reading and watching videos but still got no clear answer. Yes if you see that your parameters are getting lower and you are not able to keep up with waterchanges you should start dosing.

I like to do my waterchanges bi-weekly, and I do tests once a week and with alk nowadays every 3 days or so.

I got a 55 gallon, got 2 acropora 2 montipora and 5 torches. I used TM pro reef, so my alk is quite on the lower side of 7. My Ph is stable and so is my calcium.

I got a dosing pump already, but since my calcium and ph are steady I dont think its smart to dose kalkwasser. Could someone explain to me how and what to do or do not do?

You start dosing when you see a significant decline in Alkalinity.

For example, if you measure at 9am on Friday and the next Friday at 9am your Alk has dropped by 1dkh, you dose to bring the Alk back up 1 dkh.

Thanks for answering, but since my akh is 7 due to TM pro it will be under 7 then and close to 6. Wouldnt that be a huge thing? Or would I spot it looking at the corals as well? Or wouldnt it all go that fast and there will be time to act?

I would suggest dosing baking soda to increase your alk to 8, and then see how long it takes to drop to 7.

You can calculate a dosing schedule from that information.
