I’d put it somewhere you’re comfortable with it encrusting everything in its path. If it’s surrounded by sand my experience has been that it will stick to its rock but the veterans may have more knowledge here
1. Yes possible too much light.
2. Don't put it anywhere near anything you don't want covered with it.
