Which model would you get? I have 500 saved should i go with the EL? Or continue to save for the full version?

It depends what you want to control. The full version gives more probes which monitors more.

Unless u plan on using the 0 to 10v outlets on the power bar I would go with the EL. U can always add a module for that later down the road if u need to.

I would continue to save. Especially since if ylu decide later to upgrade, the head unit isn't capable of said upgrade. You would need to buy a seperate module.

Another thing to note, there are used full versions going for 600-650 fairly often.

no right or wrong answer.
another option is to get a used apex classic, which usually go for around $200+.
all you really need is temp and ph probe. it is tempting to get a lot of probes if you've never had a controller before, but in the end, after all the novelty wears off, only temp and ph are essential. and google salinity probe issues.

as an owner of the full version, the salinity probe is worthless and the ORP probe gives you an idea what is happening to something you shouldn't ever have to change.

so... my 2 cents, go the cheaper route
