Well, my mag 18 is dead silent. It is the pondmaster variation with the 18 foot cord.It does use a few more watts than some other more effiecent pumps. The piece of mind I get out of running a danner mag drive is by far worth it. Not to mention I paid $30 for my pump(got the hookup, bought a bunch of'em)

I agree. Danner Mag pumps are all I have ever used. I have a mag 9.5 + 2 mag 7's on different systems. Although, i haven't used one larger than the 9.5 so i'm unsure how bigh a difference there is between a 12 + 7 are in force. i know the gph but actual pressure and if my overflow is big enough to handle it.

I believe you should cycle your tank about 10 times per hour so you will need one that pushes about 2250gph or hook up 2 returns on a 225g tank. The more turnover the better. I have a 125g and am thinking of a mag 7 & mag 12 (it will be about 1400 gph total due to a 5' head) and moving the mag 9.5 to my 100g FW hex tank.
