Who has a regal?

Ive just purchased a regal angel and was interested in some feedback from regal owners. I’m pretty excited. Fish is in qt right now and is going into a sps dominant tank but there are some lps in there as well. Any of y’all keep them with lps or no such luck?

The current one I have stays away from most corals but like many angels will occasionally nip at sps, mostly around the root so possibly hunting for pods or something else.

When they grow up they tend to be more interested in corals but IME they rarely target a single coral as long as you have a large enough tank.

Mine have never nipped at coral but they certainly can.

I have a Regal Angelfish and he is a model citizen and doesn’t bother anything fish or corals (at the moment! Lol)

And anyway with a face like this who cares if he does!

i had a pair that got along well
i took out all my zoas
they both left my frogspawn and duncans alone as well as sps until recently
one started to nip at high end millies and chalices
i had to move one to another tank
the other is still a model citizen and in my dt
so this is proof they are all different
and the one that nips coral still has the juvenile spot on the back

getting them to eat is the biggest hurdle once you get past that and qt you should be good
stay away from aggressive tank mates
i won’t mention how many regals died at my hands[emoji85]but they are tough in the beginning

I’ve had pretty good luck with difficult and/or hard to get eating fish..... knock on wood.. lol I have an orange spot file fish, multibar angle(in another tank), leopards, copper band, extra. Not saying it’s always worked out but I’m prepared with every possible means and methods to give him the best chance.

I’ve had a number of them. Almost always the yellow or orange belly variety - they are generally reputed to be hardier (probably collection related). Always put them through a separete reef tank where there’s plenty of rock to graze. Only lost one, a very small juvenile. All the others made it into the main display. All of mine eventually ate zoos, though a couple also ate aiptasia/majano - an acceptable trade off for me. No issues with most LPS, except the large meaty polyp varieties that were consumed with gusto. SPS fine, except for dying colonies. Spectacular fish and well worth the compromises necessary IMO.

I have two yellow belly Regals in a reef tank that was loaded with LPS, Zoas, buttons, and a few SPS. My Regals ate all Zoas and buttons, some LPS as well as a few softies like Sinularia. One of the two fish kept pestering a clam which i had to remove to save. The other Regal never bothered the clam. SPS are still fine.

As with most angels softies, Euphyllia, and SPS are fairly safe.
