Why a water change

I have not done a water changing my aquarium in one year everything grows 1ml AFL daily and a auto top off so why should I do a water change

Well, one reason is because we aren't tracking every single element that goes into our tanks. Doing regular weekly water changes will cause those elements to plateau and stop increasing rather than increase forever. For example: a number of dry fish foods have tested high in aluminum. Without water changes that aluminum will never leave the tank because even activated carbon is pretty crappy at removing it.
