Why did my small RBTA split already?

It was only 3-3.5" fully open. Just when I started feeding it more for better growth it decided to split overnight. I was hoping it would continue growing and be the centerpiece of my tank.

I'm fairly BTA ignorant so I'm tagging along. I have like 15+ now and I wish at least one would keep growing.

How many times a week are you feeding ?
Sometimes feeding will cause them to split

Some cultivars or strains of bta just do that....
around here in the philly area, every single reefer has the same rbta that will split into 100 and never get more than 3-4” big. When I got a bta for our clowns we specifically got a green one so we didn’t have that issue.

My RBTA has split about 8 times in the last 8-10 months, never bigger than 2.5"-3".

I also have this strain of rainbows that get no larger than 2.5"~3" and start to split. Never seen this before so a 1st for me, all my other BTAs get rather large.
