This morning a post on a facebook group I have now left involved an opinion about a brand that was blamed for the failure instead of investigating what actually went wrong.

I pointed out that it wasn't necessarily the brand's fault and that all brands can and will fail. It matters not what our opinion of a brand is.

Two people, obviously fans of a particular brand, and without any knowledge of the brand that failed, went on the offensive.

Now, I have thick skin. I wasn't offended I was actually amused at their idiocy and immaturity.

What bothered me is, folks like this do this a lot and deter people from staying in the hobby. I see it on every platform and in every forum.

Why do people behave this way?

I have tried to be encouraging. Yes, I have been upset about something a time or two but I never have attacked anyone. I just am at a loss as to why many people think the internet empowers them to be rude and just plain be a jerk.

Because the internet.

My theory is it started as people's new found courage with the anonymity of the internet. Then people carried that over to their social media and act like idiots with their real name on display. Now we look like a society of jerks.

I don't Facebook for this reason.

Keyboard Ninjas. The screen is an impervious security blanket. Say whatever you want virtually without consequence and then if there is a consequence it is clearly the fault of someone else...

I'm also a member of some facebook groups. Some of the advice given within those conversations is horrible. I try to stay out of them to avoid the conflict and often direct people to these forums.

Facebook is the worst social media I’ve ever joined. I signed up I thought cool I’ll see what old army friends are up to. Now I can’t stand it I just stick to forums. Somebody always wants to argue.

No they don't!!! :)

People attack because they have become invested in the brand that you are having trouble with. They are scared that they could be next, so treat you like you are bad luck.

It’s stupid but it is what it is.

Btw-Social media will be the death of us :-)

:)

i don’t have a business fb account and i hardly ever use my personal account. i certainly never post junk to my wall. i have a lot of customers ask me if i have a fb page and my answer is a simple - no. i have a website that gets hits on google like crazy and i’m on this forum. why would i need a fb page???????????

I've never joined Facebook. I felt it was too intrusive right from the start. I also don't particularly want to connect with 'old friends' just to find out that they're fascist monsters or otherwise disappointing to me. I'd rather stick with vague pleasant memories of them. If I really feel the need to follow a business's facebook page, keeping an eye out for new arrivals or sales, I can do that without joining.
