Why point powerheads towards surface?

I do it to push organic film that forms on surface towards overflow. All the others are a plus.

This thread has become interesting, keep it up guys.

I'm guessing vortechs are out of this question? since they create random flow patterns, then no need to be aimed anywhere right ?

This is why I dislike vortechs. They're criminally overhyped, and their gph is dramatically overstated. I put in the smallest tunze they make, a 6015 -- 400gph. It put out WAY more movement than the vortechs. The day I got rid of them is the day I stopped having flow problems.

I forgot when I eat, I sit in my house and just breathe until all the food is converted to energy within the walls of my house. Good point.

FWIW, I think the contribution of a powerhead aimed at the tank surface to oxygen levels is marginal at best (just like the contribution of the skimmer to same). In a properly circulated tank, with adequate surface skimming, oxygen saturation is pretty easy to accomplish. I tested this some years ago with the apex PM3.

Didn't you just make a rant of a thread on how horrible people are on R2R for doing exactly what your doing now? Lol.

All of it ends up as CO2? Doesn’t a portion of it end up as water?

All of the carbon, obviously. The hydrogen from foods is obviously not transformed into carbon or oxygen. Alchemy is still not perfected in living organisms. My math is correct and house plants do not have any useful impact on O2 levels in a home. :)

Rather than spend $$$ and time on maintaining house plants ..... I just open a few windows.

My windows are never closed, but I wanted to further randomized my flow. overall pointing pumps at the surface absolutely helped.

I'm running a Tunze 6095, and two sicce 1800gph pumps in my cube
