The dash lit up with ‘engine failure’ and I coasted to the shoulder. I saw smoke and texted the wife a photo. I politely excused myself from the call and noticed flames by the windscreen. I grabbed my two bananas, two phone chargers, both phones and my work folder and got the F out. 911 said move back 100’, I was already at 200’! The rest you see in the photos. When it was all over I went back and got my two umbrellas (always carry a spare people, never know when you need to help someone out) my hand sanitizer, essential worker letter and my very wet insurance papers. Good times. D0959064-9CA2-4B95-9485-5C2E737AC769.jpeg 2BD9D2DF-6BFC-49BD-A5D5-D9DD4A7936BA.jpeg

Glad that you are safe. On a lighter note you did not forget to grab the Bananas :)
Good luck!!

Thank goodness you got the hand sanitizer out. The value of that could buy you a new car these days.

Just had a full service ~5 weeks ago. New brakes, new battery. So happy I didn’t fill her up this morning. Decided to do that on the way home.

What year was your Escape? I found this https://www.krohnandmoss.com/safety...icles-may-catch-fire-or-crash-without-warning

I would be contacting Ford, not that I think they will help you out/pay for your car but it might be a safety issue they need to be aware of.

Wow! Glad you're safe!
