One of the things I most enjoy is feeding and watching the wild birds. This time of year in southeast Texas means the goldfinches have arrived. At one point I saw at least 15 dispersed between the thistle feeder and bird bath at the same time. I spent some time outside the other day with my DSLR sitting very still to get some photos. I only have a 28-90 mm macro lens so I had to be close to the birds to get a good pic. I'm hoping to one day get a better wildlife lens. Here are a few shots I took:

Very nice - I'm feeding about 40 of these, mixed with a few chickadees and some house finches, a day right now. They empty a large birdfeeder of sunflower seeds every day, and another of thisle seed every couple of day. I'll have six or more on the thistle feeder at one time - pretty cool to watch.

Feed them well! They are my summer birds. All I get this time of year is grackles, cowbirds, a few English sparrows and some year round resident Cardinals.

They're eating a lot so they'll be nice and fueled up for their trip back to you. There's a good variety of birds here year-round, but right now it's mourning and white wing doves, house sparrows, blue jays, cardinals, a warbler, and of course, the goldfinches.
