A tank can feel huge when you’re planning it and surprisingly small once you start filling it with fish and corals. Or you may find that the smaller setup fits your space and routine just right.

Knowing what you know now, would you choose the same size for your main reef?

BONUS POINTS: What size is your current tank, and what would you change if you were choosing again?

75g. I would've gone for 120g at the very least, so I can keep some larger species. I'd love to have Malacanthus brevirostris when I upgrade in the future.

I wish I went with the 6ft tank and not the 4ft. Better excuse to upgrade. Just hurts the pocket twice.

36 gallon presently. Would love to have gone much larger, like 180. When I started, the frags seemed lost in this tank and it looked like it would take forever to fill out. Now that I've accumulated a few frags and some of them are finally growing - some aggressively - I am seeing how limited my real estate truly is. Balance this against being 66 years old, and I'm happy with my current tank, but I can still daydream!

I started with a 4' 150 gallon. I thought I'll never need to upgrade as it was the largest tank I've ever had. Well, 2 years later and its too small. Im planning on two tank upgrades next year. A 225 gallon (72"×24"×30") for freshwater and a 340 gallon (72"×30"×36") for the reef tank. Hopefully that fits my needs. LOL

If I had been living in a bigger house at the time, I would have gone with a 40-50g instead of a 20g. However, it was perfect for the place we were in.

I have a 225, 72”x30”x24”. If inwere to donit again inwould keep the 24” height, and 72” length, but go 36 or 40” wide.

With that said, mine is second hand and was probably 15% of what it cost new due to its weight and size. Moving anything bigger would have been a real challenge.
