I have a 4 foot x 2 foot, 100g tank. The stocking list, in rough order of "whose the boss", is:
Tomini tang
Lineatus Wrasse
copperband butterfly
exquisite wrasse
McCosker Flasher wrasse
royal gramma
starki and an azure damsel
pair of mandarins
The question revolves around the wrasse pecking order. The Linneatus is cool with the other wrasses, he's bigger then the other two and maybe once a week or something he'll just give a "get out of my way" but otherwise he's fine with everything. The thing that has me worried is that the exquisite wrasse can sometimes get extremely aggressive in bullying the McCosker. They were added at the same time about a month ago. They coexisted for maybe 2-3 of those weeks but one weekend I noticed that the exquisite was just being relentless towards the mccosker. The mccosker was desperately trying to just find a spot he could chill, he was changing colors to "sleep mode" and trying to go absolutely anywhere. I intervened by catching the exquisite in an isolation box. The McCosker, through it all, was still willing to eat and still "trying". He had a ripped fin dorsal fin and was clearly missing scales here and there. Now the exquisite has been seperate for maybe 4 days, the mccosker is fully healed (looks to me anyways) and he is out flashing everyone and looking great again. I still see the exquisite diving for the mccosker here and there but just hitting the side of the box. Is there something I can do to work this out?
I do want to mention one more thing, I had a pintail wrasse when I added these two. The pintail looked to be above them, he (actually it was probably still female based on color) spent the first 3 days or so chasing them here and there but nothing worrying. Then on day 4 he was just missing. I never once saw him bullied. I can't find him anywhere and at this point he's clearly dead, but no idea how or why.
I'd love some advice here from the wrasse experts.
