Hello all,

I recently set up a 55 gallon that I’m planning on making a mixed reef setup. I got a sailfin fairy wrasse (blue throat) and was told at my LFS that this was a peaceful wrasse that would do well in my 55.
After doing research, which I should have done before my impulse buy, it seems that I have got one of the more aggressive fairy wrasse. I looked at the wrasse guys flow chart and it seems like a pintail could be compatible?
I would like to add another fairy/flasher wrasse, but I don’t know if that’s feasible with adding the blue throat first. So wanted to ask the experts on here.

Thanks!

Pintails do not do well in a tank with any aggression. You can find the occasional pintail badazz..

But most likely, a pintail will hide and wither away. A 55 is also quite small for a cyanogularis, so that may add to the tension. You need to know the temperament of your wrasse(s) before adding another fairy or flasher, especially a pintail. In my opinion, you'd be better off trying a (smaller) Halichoeres or a leopard. Unfortunately, you threw a (pretty) stick of dynamite in your tank, just hope that it has a long fuse.

Yaa I was afraid this might be the case. I do like the leopard wrasse but can’t they be pretty timid too?
Currently have a firefish, royal gamma, clownfish, and the blue throat.

A healthy leopard will take care of itself. They just have to show off their "throat tooth" and they usually get their space. I'd be more worried about the clown, but if it's a solo ocellaris, maybe not a problem (my clowns bullied smaller fairies and flashers).
