Bought a beginner 4 pack of soft corals online from a highly reputable dealer.
Toadstool Mushroom
Caulifower Colt
Tree coral
Yellow Fiji Leather coral

All seem fine with the exception of the Fiji. Stays closed up 24 hours a day. Sits by itself on a rock, med lighting T5s 3 white 2 blue actinic with med water flow
Parameters
Ph 8.0
Salinity 1.023
Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate all 0
Calcium 480
dkh 10

Any thoughts on why the Fiji won't open up?

How long have you had it? It may still be adjusting to your tank. I had a toadstool that didn't open for almost a week after I brought it home and now it stays open all the time. Leathers are a weird coral. Have you tried moving it around in your tank to different areas of light and flow combination?

About 5 days. Yes on moving it around. The toadstool opened up right away. The Yellow Fiji refuses so far.

Give it more time and don't move it. They can close up for days at a time even with good water parameters.

Leathers and other soft corals can do that sometimes. It may also be shedding, leather corals expel their upper mucosa to grow. When they do this they can be closed for a long time.

Also, what kind of lighting do you have it under? The "Fiji Yellow" varieties of leathers need much more light than other leather corals. I had best experience with them in the upper parts of the tank closest to the light.

I'd agree with ritter. If you've only had it that short of time leave it in one spot and see what it does as long as it doesn't look like it falling apart its ok. That type of leather likes a lot of light and a Med flow.

I have T5s. 3 white & 2 blue actinics. It's placed about 6 inches below the water line in medium flow. I will leave it alone for a few days and see what happens

Thanks for the info.
