Yes, these 4 were at the growth edge of a 20 polyp piece.

So I'm sure some zooxanthellae exchange could possibly be occurring from neighboring corals?
I'm very curious...

So it's a normal solar flare and you find this variation within the colony?

Here is a cell pic from 2012(thank you icloud), I picked these up from a guy in Colorado while we were exhibiting at Reef Stock. Sadly I have never been able to get the white back, just black/purple and green.

What do you grow out your acans on?

I just have them mounted to Alternative Reef ceramic plugs, feed Reef Roids and LRS Reef Frenzy, and they are under T5's. My first pieces were grown under halides!
