My Zia colony is never fully open. Even when they’re nearly full they seem very extended. Anyone have a good tip?

I see some aptaisia's and some vermetids mixed in there...

Have you checked for pest such as Aiptasia? Is algae growing on the piece? Check late at night for Asterina star fish. Provide more flow.

Aiptasia has become an issue recently yes. I seem to only find peppermint that don’t eat it. I’ve had this issue before that. I don’t see the vermetids.
Yeah your right, it was a closed zoa, it looked like a vermatid lol. It looks like something is eating a path right through there. Maybe use a magnifying glass and go have a closer look in there. Good luck

My first move with zoas that won’t open is always lighting. Usually they’ll tell you when they’re happy & when they’re not. Too much light - polyps closed, melting after a few days. Too little light - polyps fully opened but no new growth after a month. Try putting him just a tab bit further away from the light source & see what happens. Also, you should get a peppermint shrimp for the aptasia problem, I’m sure they’re not happy with their new stinging neighbors.
